Procedure:  Read each of the following questions, and then mark the correlating boxes ONLY if you can answer YES.  Not sure what the questions mean? ASK!

 

Credibility  Goal: an authoritative source, a source that provides good evidence that allows you to trust it.

 

q       Can the author of the page be determined? (individual or corporate)

q       Is the author affiliated with an organization? (organization named or .edu, .gov, .mil, .org)

q       Are qualifications or credentials for the individual or organization provided? (faculty member of…, accredited by…, recognized by…, etc )

q       Is the author or organization a well-known, respected authority? (New Mexico State University, American Medical Society, etc.)

q       Has the site been reviewed by an online reviewing agency or reputable newspaper or magazine? (NY Times, Newsweek, BBB, Webby Awards, Web Feet, Blue Web’n, etc.)

 

Accuracy and Reasonableness  Goal: a source that is correct today (not yesterday), a source that provides the whole truth

 

q       Are dates included? (“First Posted” date, “Last Updated” date)

q       Does the author indicate his/her goal in providing the information?

q       Is the information fair, balanced, and objective?

q       Can you determine the purpose of the page?  Circle one of the following: inform, persuade, sell, entertain.

 

Support  Goal: a source that provides convincing evidence for the claims made, a source you can triangulate (find at least two other sources that support it)

 

q       Is contact information provided?

q       Is the source of information provided? (bibliography or simple listing)

q       Can you easily verify the information? (does info appear in other sources)

q       Does the presentation appear to be professional? (no typos, misspellings)

q       Is the page easy to use and well organized?
